What is virtual staging?

Virtual staging is digitally adding furniture and decor to photographs of an empty property, so buyers can judge scale and use without the cost of physically furnishing it.

Empty rooms are genuinely hard to read. Without a reference object, buyers systematically misjudge dimensions and struggle to picture how a space would function. Staging supplies that reference.

The cost difference against physical staging is large — a fraction of the price, delivered in hours rather than days — which is what has made it standard rather than exceptional.

Disclosure is the professional obligation. Virtually staged images should be labelled as such, and the alterations should be limited to furnishings. Removing damage, altering room proportions or editing out an unwanted view crosses from presentation into misrepresentation.
